Battery Energy Storage

A Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) collects energy from renewable energy sources, such as wind and or solar panels or from the electricity network and stores the energy using battery storage technology. The batteries discharge to release energy back to National Grid or Via Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) when necessary, such as during peak demands, power outages, or grid balancing.

Gas Generators

A "commercial gas generator system" refers to a power generation system used in commercial settings, which runs on natural gas as its primary fuel source, but you can also use Synthetic Gas, from such as a Pyrolysis plant, or a Digester, providing electricity during power outages or to supplement the grid when needed; essentially, it's a large-scale generator designed for commercial applications that utilises gases to produce electricity.

Pyrolysis Plant

A pyrolysis plant is a recycling machine that breaks down organic materials and convert waste plastic/tyre/oil sludge/coal tar oil to fuel oil. The final product of the pyrolysis plant is mainly fuel oil which (can be further refined into diesel), carbon black, and syngas.

A Brief History of My Projects

Some of the major developments I’ve worked on over the past 20+ years.

Aylesford Power

Value: £20.0m

23 BYD 1.26MW containerised battery storage systems on contaminated ground with overhead cable restrictions. Includes civils, DNO room, DNO control panel, client room, client control panel, and switch gear.

Seamer Power BESS

Value: £1.6m

1 NEC 3MW containerised battery storage system. Secured the grid connection, planning, and completed the full build, including commissioning to a fully working system.

Doncaster Power BESS - Phase 1

Value: £5.0m

10MW containerised battery storage system. Secured the grid connection, planning, and completed the full build, including commissioning to a fully working system.

Rayleigh Power

Value: £30.0m

24 MWM 2020 v.20 2MW + 1 MWM 2016 v.12 1MW output each, containerised on natural gas. Secured grid connection, planning, and completed the full build, including commissioning to a fully working system.

Cranfield University CHP

Value: £6.0m

1 MWM 2020 v.16 1.5MW containerised on natural gas + 5t/hr waste heat/fired steam boiler. Includes building alterations for the steam boiler, client control room, and switch gear.

Liverpool University CHP

Value: £3.5m

2 MWM 2020 v.20 2MW output each on natural gas. Includes building alterations, acoustic enclosures, client room, and switch gear.

Royal Marsden Hospital CHP

Value £2.4m

1no MWM 2020 v.20 2MW output, containerised on natural gas. Client room,
client control panel and switch gear.

Citigen London CHP

Value £12.0m

2no MWM 2032 2.7MW output on natural gas, build on site, for EON Energy. This project was not the easiest as the Gensets had to be sited five metres below ground on a structural concrete mezzanine floor that we had to build some months previously to allow the genset installation. We had to deal with the underground and London logistics.

Cynon Power Ltd Aberdare CHP

Value £8.5m

8no MWM 2020 V.16 1.5MW on natural gas, for Welsh Power Ltd. Inc erecting a purpose- built building to house the generators.
